Como era evidente, después del éxito de la remake de Ju-On en plena fiebre por el horror asiático, la atención por la obra de Takashi Shimizu fue incrementándose en esta parte del continente. Si bien muchos cineastas asiáticos comenzaron a emular sus propias fórmulas (incluso el director del que hoy hablo es uno de los casos más resonados), hubo ciertas películas que supieron destacarse de todo el catálogo que llegó de Asia. Marebito fue una de estas.

En este caso, Shimizu opta por realizar un film íntimo y minimalista. Shinya Tsukamoto encarna a un camarógrafo obsesionado con la adrenalina que provoca el miedo. Se sumerge en las profundidades del subterráneo para descubrir los secretos que esconde una leyenda urbana.

El trabajo de cámara es una mezcla interesante que nos permite tener una mirada tanto subjetiva como objetiva de cada una de las acciones. El punto de vista del protagonista hace que el film adquiera un realismo muy bien ejecutado. Tsukamoto es convincente a la hora de interpretar un personaje que pudo haber caído en las obviedades pero, dadas las circunstancias, nos permite ver un desarrollo mucho más profundo, hasta que sucumbe en las entrañas de sus anhelos por hallar el horror desconocido. Lo mismo ocurre con la construcción de F (un ser misterioso, a veces frágil como un bebé, pero siempre hambriento de sangre), que solamente debe valerse de sus expresiones corporales y de miradas para transmitir sentimientos.

Marebito maneja el bajo presupuesto que costó realizarla, de tal forma que no luce como una producción barata, ya que la esencia recae en el guión de esta y en la forma de interactuar de los dos personajes, tanto entre ellos como con el ambiente que los rodea, un mundo donde las metáforas nos llevan a la soledad y al vampirismo: consumir a otros y ser consumidos por el pavor absoluto. En la obra, hay una dualidad constante entre lo que es ficción o realidad para nuestro protagonista. Las dos formas de entender su mundo se mezclan para dejarnos preguntas en cada escena. Es un detalle sutil que se logra visualizar cuando uno presta atención al entorno donde se manifiesta el comportamiento del camarógrafo, ya que hay una lectura interna en su subconsciente, con la que puede elaborar un tipo de trama distinta a lo que creemos estar viendo. ¿Qué es la realidad y la mentira en Marebito? Cada uno de los espectadores deberá averiguarlo; tan solo basta visitar el mundo de las profundidades y que este te devuelva el saludo.
